2015 Cape Cottage Playhouse Lighting #LittleTikes

Welcome to our 2015 Cape Cottage Playhouse Lighting post.

Since we moved to California we decided to start our own Christmas traditions as a family of three. For the past 3 years we have adopted the tradition of giving toys to less fortunate kids and Kiddo himself, is the one who picks the toys. He loves to go shopping for the kids and it makes me proud to know that he is so kind.

This year we went to Puerto Rico during the holidays to visit family. Grandma is one of those who ALWAYS decorates her house right after thanks giving, and Michael LOVES the lights.

Thanks to Little Tikes we just started our new tradition: Cape Cottage Playhouse Christmas Lighting. We saw how much Kiddo loved (and loves) the Christmas lights on the houses that we thought "why not let him decorate his own house?"

He had a bunch of fun decorating this easy-to-set-up playhouse. We have kept it indoors because it is too cold outside for him to play in it during the Winter.

Assembling the house was a breeze, instructions were clear and the use of extra tools was minimum (we only needed a flat screw driver at the end. It was not necessary for assemble of the structure). The plastic seems to be high quality and durable. I never expect less from Little Tikes, ya' know.

My grandma still has a playhouse that mom bought for me on Christmas 1992. It still holds up pretty well. I still remember how much I loved that playhouse. The details inside were my favorite feature.

One thing I love about Little Tikes is the little details in their products. For example, in the Cape Cottage Playhouse it is the brick wall, mailbox, shutters, I love all those things. The other details are in the stickers, which are really cute too and made out of a nice quality paper.

Little Tikes has a nice variety of playhouses and I like that they give parents a range of prices too. For example the Cape Cottage Playhouse is a high quality product at an affordable price. Great Christmas gift if you as me!

And now… the moment you all have been waiting for….

West Marin Food and Farm Tours Review (★★★★★)

If you are looking for things to do in the Bay Area (San Francisco, CA) look no more!

West Marin Food and Farm Tours offers amazing tours where you will learn about the history of the Point Reyes Station and West Marin areas and taste some of the best things in Marin County. West Marin and Point Reyes Station are both part of Marin County in California, West Marin being the largest rural region in the county.

We took the Flavors of West Marin Tour thanks to Elizabeth Hill, the genius behind it. This tour is guided by her, and it covers seven (7) culinary destinations where we tasted local delicacies that made us crave for more when the day was over.

Let me tell you a bit about Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a certified Natural Chef, Master Gardener and a Teacher. She definitely is the best tour guide in this area. You can tell how in love she is with West Marin just by the way she talks about the area, the history, the food… she has a passion for it and that makes you love West Marin just as much as her by the time she starts talking about it.

Our first stop was the Cowgirl Creamery. Sitting on a country picnic table in the big barn we tried some goodies from the Bovine Bakery while we all listened as Elizabeth told us about the history of West Marin. I loved how she told us about personal stories of her childhood in West Marin, made us connect really well with her and feel comfortable. I learned some amazing things about the Point Reyes area too that were really interesting. For example how the Point Reyes National Seashore is a "park on the move", since the area moves two (2) inches every year! Interesting, right?

But, let's talk about the tour AND the FOOD! Yum.

Like I mentioned, our first and meeting spot was the Cowgirl Creamery, a factory that makes award-winning cheeses, and that was born from the love for food and a dream that two friends had. Read their amazing story HERE.

The cheese tray arrived at the table, and it was just beautiful. Wedges of different cheeses were arranged in rows for each of us. As we tasted each of them, Elizabeth told us a bit more about them (how they are made, how how to use it in recipes, etc).

Left to right: Wagon Wheel, Devil's Gulch, Mt Tam and Red Hawk
We tried six (6) different cheeses (two categories). For the Fresh Cheeses we tried Creme Fraîche and Fromage Blanc, both really delicious and light. In the category of Aged Cheeses we had Mt. Tam, Red Hawk, Devil's Gulch, Inverness and Wagon Wheel. My favorites were the fresh cheeses and the Wagon Wheel.

Recipe: Cheesecake Bites

So, here is the thing. I have a weakness for cheesecake. When I was 36 weeks pregnant I craved cheesecake every day. My husband used to buy me one of those mini cheesecakes from the grocery store once in a while and I would eat the whole thing in 5 minutes. Of course, my husband doesn't know it, because after eating it I would go to the grocery store and buy a new one while he was at work :) (And he doesn't read my blog either, so it is still a secret *wink*)

In my effort to try to eat less cheesecake I decided to bake minis, to control the portions. I mean, we all know that you (*clears throat* I) need to have self control to eat only one piece at a time, not the entire batch…. I'm working towards that goal haha!

Travel: Zoppen Passport Wallet Ver.4 [RFID Blocking]

Where are my travelers? Here is something for the that love to travel like me! It is the Zoppen Travel Wallet (Ver. 4).

As soon as I opened the package when I received it, I fell in love. It looks chic, clean cuts, nice seams, it is just perfect. And the faux suede lining inside is so soft and beautiful that makes this wallet look even more sophisticated.

One of the things I love is that the wallet is RFID blocking, so you can feel safe storing your cards and passport in it because no matter if you have the protective sleeves or not, the wallet will protect them with their included RFID blocking material inside.

The amount of pockets is just right for me. It has 5 pockets, 5 card slots, pen holder and even a SIM card pocket. When I travel I normally bring only my driver's license (ID), credit/debit cards, some cash for vending machines and the keys to my luggage's lock. All these (and more) fit in this wallet without making it look like it is going to explode. Oh and I totally forgot to show you the my iPhone fits in the larger pocket! WIN!

My wallet  is navy blue, and I love how the navy looks with all the details in gold like the closing snap button, zipper and key chain loop.

The wallet feels really sturdy and durable. It is definitely a high quality product that I surely will use for many, many years to come. Oh, and there are more colors available! Go to Zoppen Travel Wallet and check the variety of styles and colors, and pick your favorite!

The Zoppen Travel Wallet would make a great Christmas gift for any traveler. I can't wait to tell you all how worked for our trip after next week!

Happy Traveling!

Surprise Toy: Creative Builder Set by Kool Supply

We got surprised with a cool new toy this week!

It is the Creative Builder Set from Kool Supply!

The Creative Builder Set is a STEM supported toy for kids ages 3 and up that encourages learning through playing. That is our kind of toys, and as parents with majors in engineering we love when Kiddo has the opportunity to develop his creativity skills with fun toys!

Kool Supply's Creative Builder Set contains 85 pieces that range from big, small, flat, long and short blocks, to screws… it even comes with a 2 in 1 tool. The colors are bright and standard, so the toy is colorful and still easy for the kids to identify pieces by color. I love it because I can practice colors and numbers with Kiddo with this set. For example, I can ask him for the "red block with three holes" and he will find the block that matches my description, and so on.

Some construction ideas are included in the set in a paper. As much as I love the ideas, some of them can't be built since they require an amount of pieces of a certain block that are not in the set. Like this one we wanted to make that looked like a cool robot with wings and big eyes, but we noticed that it uses six (6) wheels and we only have four (4) of those in the set. No biggie though! We used our imagination and were able to recreate a robot that looked like that one but had our little twist!

It is great that it comes with ideas to build, but Kiddo prefers to use his imagination when playing with this Creative Builder Set. And not only this toy encourages him to use his imagination, it also helps him develop motor skills and coordination.

So far we are loving this toy and every time someone comes to the house, Kiddo goes to his room and gets this toy to show off and play with the visit.

For kids 3+ I think this would make an excellent Christmas gift, or for any occasion in reality. The little one will truly enjoy it and all the family can play with it too!

IF you want to know more about this product or purchase it, please visit their page on Amazon by clicking here: Creative Builder Set from Kool Supply

Oh, and one of the best things: everything fits in the box which comes with the set, so you event storage container to keep your blocks organized!

Parents' Corner: Gardening Tools by ROCA Home

Gardening is something that we love so much! And it is not only gardening, it is the amazing feeling of harvesting and eating what we have grown for the season. Kiddo has developed an interest in gardening as well, and since we renovated the garden now it is easier for him to work the soil ;)

Since this is our first garden we still are learning and thanks to ROCA Home, now we know what high quality gardening tools are. That's right we got a gardening set that is amazing and I would say: almost indestructible.

But, as every kid, Kiddo loves to do whatever we do, and since we had new tools he was excited to see that ROCA Home also sent us a Gardening Tools Set for Kids for him to help mommy and daddy!

First, let me show you the adult tools. They come in this amazing storage bag that has a cylindrical shape and closes with just a zipper, and it is also waterproof. It is the first time I see something like this and I love it. The zipper goes from one side to the other with no stopping or interruptions.  IT is a single zipper and it takes both round ends and the middle line. Whoever made this, ROCA Home, it is genius! (you can see how it works in the video above)

Learning with Curiosity Pack: Letters

As all of you may know, I am a stay at home mom. With that being said I always try to find ways to teach Kiddo the numbers, letter, and other basic things he should know by his age. All this because I want him to be ready when he starts preschool next year.

Curiosity Pack is exactly what every parents needs to teach their kids right at home and in a fun way.

But what exactly Curiosity Pack is?

Curiosity Pack is love, dedication, and learning in one box. Yes, these are only some of the words that can describe the amazing job that Lily (its creator) put into this amazing idea. Lily is a mom and dedicated teacher that understands how important is to know how kids learn. Curiosity Pack helps kids to learn while having fun.

So, what's inside our Curiosity Pack: Letters?
